Investing in Education and Keeping Students Safe.
As a first-generation Korean American, I was fortunate enough to pursue higher education at Yale and Columbia. I am living testimony that education has the power to unlock opportunities that my parents didn’t have.
Access to a quality education helped me transform a childhood passion for art and history into a successful career. I’m also a working mother of two young kids, and I know too well the pressures of running a business and a household at the same time. I witnessed the horrors of a drive-by shooting as a kid, and I don’t want any other child to experience the trauma of school shootings and active shooter drills. Isn’t that all common sense?
What We Need
-
Expand access to high-quality early childhood education for all income levels.
-
Invest in programs that have been historically underfunded such as (can we be specific? In OC football is very well funded) sports, the visual and dramatic arts, as well as STEM activities.
-
Invest in the teachers and facilities of K-12 public schools to better serve students from low-income families.
-
In order to lower student loan debt, make community college tuition-free and reduce the cost of four-year colleges.
-
Make schools gun-free zones.
-
Ban assault rifles and weapons of war and make background checks mandatory for responsible gun ownership.
-
Ensure every school has mental health professionals available to students.
