A New Kind of Democrat

My Promise to You
“I’m running to represent California’s 40th District in Congress because we can’t keep electing the same cynical career politicians and expecting different results. I’m a working mom, an entrepreneur, and a problem solver. I don’t just talk — I roll up my sleeves and get things done. And I’m not afraid to fight hard for the issues that matter.”
My Story: Built on Grit and Determination
Both sides of my family fled communist oppression in North Korea during the Korean War. After escaping on foot to South Korea, my grandmother, who lived with my family and helped to raise me, was a single mother selling rice and fixing umbrellas to feed her two young children. Through family reunification visas, my parents came to America with nothing but a few hundred dollar bills and the grit to pick themselves up after a string of failed business ventures. Eventually, my father succeeded in many businesses including janitorial and hotel enterprises that employed hundreds of immigrants just like him.
Growing up as a first-generation Korean American in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas, I struggled to find my voice. But teachers recognized my love of art and drive for achievement, and helped me earn degrees from Yale and Columbia. In 2012, soon after moving to California with my husband Joseph, I turned our living room into an art gallery and hustled to grow it into a thriving international business. The New York Times calls me a visionary, but I’m just someone who believes in turning “impossible” into “done.”
Whenever I have the chance, you’ll find me on horseback exploring a scenic Southern California trail or practicing barrel racing, with my 11 year old son and my 8 year old daughter riding alongside.

My Fight for You
Prosperity
As a small business owner, I’ve had sleepless nights worrying about employee payroll and rising expenses. I’ll work to lower costs for middle class families, make taxes fair, protect seniors, and ensure that quality healthcare is affordable. Bottom line: the American Dream must remain accessible for all.
Education
All children deserve teachers like those I was lucky to have. America needs to prioritize rigor, innovation and affordability in education for children and adults alike, including training and compensation of teachers — this is the best investment that we as a nation can make.
Environment
Clean air and water are fragile resources that we all depend on. Pollution and climate change threaten our health, our homes, and our quality of life. I’ll demand responsible science-based solutions that keep America competitive and Americans protected.
Family Planning
Every woman in every state should have safe access to abortion, contraception, and IVF. These decisions should be between a woman and her doctor, and nobody else.
On these issues and others, we need to move past partisanship, extremism, and ideology to find our way back to a common sense, common ground center.

Join Me
In my career, I’ve worked with Republicans and Democrats and everything in between. What I’ve learned is that common sense is our common ground.
I’m not a politician. I’m a mom, a builder, and a fighter. At this crossroads in history, we need new leaders with stubborn integrity and responsible values, to restore stability and sanity to government.

In November 2026, with your help, we are going to send CA40’s extremist Republican representative Young Kim to retirement and flip the House. Let’s get it done.
